Cancer-Fighting Foods

We all know that the foods we eat have a direct affect on our health. Did you know, however, that some foods might help prevent cancer?

To help keep cancer at bay, try incorporating the following foods into your diet:
  • Beans: Phytochemicals, which help cells from becoming damaged, can be found in beans. The fiber in the beans also helps fight digestive cancers.
  • Berries: Berries contain ellagic acid and anthocyanosides, two cancer-fighting compounds. Load up on strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.
  • Cruciferous Vegetables: Cruciferous vegetables include broccoli, cabbage and kale. These veggies help slow cancer growth and development.
  • Leafy Green Vegetables: Leafy greens contain the antioxidants called carotenoids. These help protect the body from free radicals, which can damage cells.
  • Garlic: Compounds in garlic can help slow or stop the formation of tumors.
  • Grapes and Red Wine: Grapes and red wine contain resveratol, an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, that helps prevent cellular damage.
  • Tomatoes: Tomatoes contain lycopene, which helps protect the body from a number of cancers.
  • Whole Grains: Whole grains contain a number of cancer-fighting compounds, including fiber.
Next time you're at the grocery store, be sure to load up your cart with plenty of the foods listed above. Also talk to your doctor about eating healthy.
