familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP): A rare, inherited condition in which hundreds of polyps form in the colon and rectum.

fecal occult blood test (FOBT): Detects tiny amounts of blood in the stool.

hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer (HNPCC): The most common type of inherited (genetic) colorectal cancer.

internal radiation (implant radiation or brachytherapy): Radiation that comes from radioactive material placed in thin tubes put directly into or near the tumor.

intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT): Radiation given during surgery.
